PARENTAL CHOICE
IN EDUCATION:
The Houston Independent School District is proud to provide parents
with a wide variety of choice in public education through its
Magnet programs. In Magnet schools, students develop their special talents while enhancing
their learning capacities. To the right is a description of the application process; inside are
program descriptions, locations, and phone numbers. As you explore the Magnet program
offerings, keep in mind that academics are always the primary focus on all HISD campuses.
Also included is an application to Magnet programs (you may apply to as many programs as you like)
as well as a separate application for Vanguard programs. Vanguard programs serve students who have
been identified as potentially gifted or talented in intellectual ability,
creativity, or leadership. Please note: on your Vanguard application, specify the three
Vanguard schools you would like to attend and submit the application to your first-choice
school.
